Narita International Airport Ground Transportation
Introduction
Narita Airport is served directly by taxi, hotel transfer bus, train and limousine bus services. Transfers to / from the terminals are made by shuttle bus.
Taxis
Taxi cabs from Narita to the centre of Tokyo are considered to be some of the most expensive in the world, with the one- to two-hour trip costing from 15,000 Yen which is about 135 US dollars. The taxis also tend to be small, with little luggage space.
Train Services
Trains are a much more economical option than taxis and you have some choice. The Narita Express Train (NEX) leaves from the lower level of the airport terminals, so avoiding the need for a shuttle bus. You must reserve a seat on this train, however, and this can be done at the NEX counter at the train terminal. Trains leave every 30 minutes, the journey to Tokyo Station is 75 minutes. There is also a slower train run by Japan Railways that leaves every 45 minutes that takes 80 minutes.
The fastest option is the Keisei Skyliner Express, which leaves Narita Station every 30-40 minutes, arriving at Ueno Station, just north of Tokyo Station. The journey takes one hour and tickets can be purchased in the arrivals lobby of each terminal.
Finally, there is an Airport Limited Express that links Haneda and Narita Airports and takes about 105 minutes.
Airport Shuttle Buses
Most major hotels provide shuttle bus services. Travellers are requested to inquire at the time of making a reservation.
Bus Services
A useful method of reaching the centre of Tokyo from Narita Airport is the 'Airport Limousine Bus' which leaves from just outside the terminals and goes to the Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) roughly every 15 minutes. From there it is a short trip to all the major Tokyo hotels. Some of the buses go direct to the hotels so please check details at the Airport Limousine Bus counter just by customs where you can also purchase your ticket.
